Crying out to God for deliverance, he asks that God not grant the wicked their desires but turn the tables on them. Knowing God is on his side, he says in verse seven, "Thou hast covered my head in the day of battle." God's got him covered.
When we face opposition, we need not fall into a heap. If we are acting from a position of right, God knows that, and He will fight for us. He has an amazing way of turning the tables. All we have to do is pray, do our part by remaining obedient and faithful, and waiting on God. The enemy's own lips will give him away.
David prays in vs 8-9, "Grant not, O Lord, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah. As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them."
That's a rather poignant prayer, isn't it? But it is so true. Evil will eventually eat itself up. They will turn on each other.
David's prayer returns to confidence in the Lord. "I know that the Lord will maintain the cause of the afflicted, and the right of the poor. Surely the righteous shall give thanks unto thy name: the upright shall dwell in thy presence" (vs 12-13).
In our day of increasing violence and evil, let us keep our confidence in God. David experienced some extremely hard situations, and we may as well, but God remained his place of safety and assurance. God had him covered. And God has us covered, too.
